Loire River Buckthorn Pendant

This hand shaped pendant is made from Buckthorn found on the edge of the Loire River near La Chapelle-sur-Loire, Loire Valley, France. Buckthorn is such a small tree that it is of virtually no commercial potential, and its wood is not typically offered for sale as it is uneconomic . The branches were smooth and thornless indicating this could be the Alder Buckthorn. The wood is hard and has a tight grain, with a fine uniform texture.
